Students launch campaign asking to cancel BHU Entrance Exam, thousands join

Students on Monday started online campaign raising their demand to cancel BHU Entrance exam 2020. Citing the spike in Covid-19 cases in the country and non-compliance of social-distancing guidelines in recent exams, thousands of students started online twitter campaign against BHU Entrance examinations starting from 24 August 2020 for PG courses & 9 September for UG courses.

Launching a massive tweet campaign, students ask authorities of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) to review its decision to hold BHU Entrance examination amid health crises caused by Covid-19 pandemic. According to the schedule revised on Sunday, BHU would conduct UG and PG Entrance Examinations for Admissions to respective courses for academic session 2020-21.

Students campaign with hash tag Cancel BHU Entrance strengthened after the reports came from Uttar Pradesh where about 3.5 lakh students called for B.Ed Joint Entrance Examination on August 9, 2020. It is reported that huge was seen at various examination centres in Lucknow and other districts and social distancing norms were violated at centres. The report of Kerala SSLC examination is being cited as five students were reported Covid-19 positive after examination.

Participating in the #CancelBHUEntrance tweet campaign a user writes- "The authorities of BHU may not be allowed to complete the entrance exam in hurry because it may damage the mental peace. Administration of BHU is misusing its authority to put the examinees under threat of persistent pandemic".

On Sunday, reviewing the situation BHU revised the Entrance exam schedule. Now as per new schedule BHU will conduct PG Entrance test from August 24 to 31. Whereas the entrance test for UG courses will be conducted on 9, 10, 11 & 14 September 2020. It is said that the schedule of second phase of entrance examination will be available by 17 August 2020.
