Due to the COVID-19, fearing to lose an attempt old course students have launched an online campaign requesting the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) to either postpone the exams or provide an additional attempt. Students seeking additional attempt say that the recent announcement by the ICAI which allows the conditional opt-out facility to the students who are affected due to COVID-19 will be left no other option hence that they should be given an additional attempt before the November cycle exams.
ICAI has released guidelines for the opt-out scheme for the students. The decision was taken after students filed a petition before the Supreme Court. It allows students to opt-out with conditions producing COVID-19 positive reports, among many others.
Representing the old-course CA students, Advocate Anubha Shrivastava Sahai launched a poll in which 90 percent of votes cast is against the ICAI decision to not provide an additional chance to the students.
"The recent notification by @theicai about conditional opt-out, an extension of old course for those who will opt out and no alternate attempt before November is student-friendly or not?"

Former Member of Parliament Chartered Accountant Kirit Somaiya also raised issues related to students before ICAI. "Requested @theicai to check issues raised by Students for 5 July CA Exam. Concern about getting COVID or having Patients at home/housing complex. Old Course Students Fear to lose an attempt requesting postponement or provision for additional attempt (other than November 2021)," he tweeted.
