The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to cancel, postpone the Class 12th and 10th exams respectively. According to the sources, the decision is taken in view of the increase in the number of cases of COVID-19. On being asked to share their feedback several students have supported the decision taken in the meeting between PM Modi, the Education Minister, and secretaries of different boards. However, a section of students expressed dissatisfaction with the decision.
The majority of the students have extended their support to the decision taken by the CBSE board today, whereas on other a section of students opposed the decision of canceling class 10th exams. Citing the authenticity of grade/marks in Class 10, students said that they might face discrimination in the promotion to high schools/employment opportunities in comparison to students who score taking exams.
On Wednesday, CBSE Board decided to cancel the board exams for Class 10 students. Board also decided to postpone the class 12th exams till further notice.
In an official notice, the board has said that the results of Class 10th will be prepared on the basis of an objective criterion to be developed by the Board. "The results of the Class X board will be prepared on the basis of an objective criterion to be developed by the Board", an official statement of CBSE reads.
However, the board has also facilitated an opportunity for the students who wish to take exams after the situation becomes more conducive. "Any candidate who is not satisfied with the marks allocated to him/her on this basis will be given an opportunity to sit in an exam as and when the conditions are conclusive to hold the exams", reads the official statement.
On other hand, Delhi Education Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia urged the CBSE board to even cancel the Class 12 board exams. "Cancel Class 12 CBSE board exams as well", Sisodia said to the Centre government after the board decided to cancel the class 10th exams and postponed the exams for class 12.
