ICMR Directs States to not use Rapid Testing Kits of two Chinese Companies

Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Monday issued advisory to state governments to not use Rapid Testing Kits facilitated by two Chinese firms. ICMR in its press briefing on Monday revising advisory intimated to states on Kits ordered through international tender & advised to not use Rapid Testing Kits of Guangzhou Wondfo Biotech and Zhuhai Livzon Diagnostics kits. In the same row Government of India also released fact sheet on Rapid Antibody tests on Monday.

ICMR directs states to not use Chinese Rapid Testing Kits- Answering a question on loss due to order, ICMR replied that India hasn't made any payment whatsoever in respect to these supplies. Because of due process followed (not going for procurement with 100% advance amount), Govt doesn't stand to lose a single rupee, added Govt of India on Rapid Antibody test kits procurement.

ICMR has written to them to stop using Guangzhou Wondfo Biotech and Zhuhai Livzon Diagnostics kits. COVID19. States are advised to stop using these kits procured from the two companies (Guangzhou Wondfo Biotech and Zhuhai Livzon Diagnostics kits) and return them to be sent back to the suppliers.

Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) COVID19 in its advisory stated that several states have procured rapid antibody test kits on their demand & ICMR also provided these kits with clear instructions that they are to be used only for surveillance purpose. Some states have raised issues regarding their performance during the testing exercise that they have undertaken. In view of this states are advised to stop using these kits procured from the above mentioned Companies and return them to be sent back to the suppliers.

ICMR on other hand also assured that India has enough number of Rapid Testing Kitss. ‘At the level of ICMR we have sufficient amount of kits as far as RT PCR test is concerned. Not only sufficient amount of kits are available but we have also parallelly ensured geographical adequacy', said Lav Aggarwal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health.
