According to reports, Kangana Ranaut on Tuesday unveiled the first trailer for the upcoming political drama Thalaivi, based on the life of actor-turned-politician J Jayalalithaa. The Thalaivi Trailer launch event was held on her 34th birthday.
The Thalaivi trailer shows Jayalalithaa being undermined by mysognistic male-dominated society, men doubt if she has what it takes to be a politician, especially because she was originally an actress.
In Thalaivi trailer, there are also glimpses of romantic scenes and moments of light humour. Jaya(Kangana Ranaut) is told that if she is willing to spread love, she will receive love in return.
After seeing sneak peaks of Kangana's item numbers, We are then shown glimpses of Jayalalithaa campaigning, and winning support across the state. Powerful moments include Jayalalithaa taking on Indira Gandhi face-to-face in her maiden speech in the Parliament in 1984. Incidentally, Kangana will play Indira in an upcoming film as well.
In Thalaivi trailer, it is also shown that someone sexually assaults Jaya in the legislative assembly, then Kangana's character turns furious & decides to rebel against the whole men-dominated political ecosystem. Thalaivi trailer is also full of Mahabharata references and Kangana's character Jaya is also compared to 'Draupadi'.
Thalaivi is an Indian upcoming multilingual biographical film about the life of J. Jayalalithaa, politician and film actress who served six terms as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, with Kangana Ranaut playing the role of Jayalalithaa.
Thalaivi is directed by A. L. Vijay and produced by Vibri Media in collaboration with Karma Media And Entertainment. Simultaneously shot in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages under the same title, filming began on 10 November 2019. The film is scheduled for release on 23 April 2021.
