Article 15 is Ayushmann Khurrana's third highest grossing film in his career right behind AndhaDhun and Badhaai Ho. The movie received immense critical acclaim upon its release and the positive response by the critics as well as from the audience.
Directed by Anubhav Sinha, the film's box office collection was Rs 34.21 crore in the first week of its release. In the second week, the film made Rs 18.22 crore. The last weekend collection of Article 15 was Rs 5.55 crore taking the total collection of the film to Rs 57.98 crore. The film earned Rs 2.15 crore on Sunday at the box office.
The storyline for the socio-political drama film, Article 15, has been inspired from true life events, including 2014 Badaun gang rape and 2016 Una flogging incident. Ayushmann Khurrana plays the role of IPS officer Ayan Ranjan in Article 15. The actor has been applauded by fans as well as critics for his performance as a serious cop. The film takes inspiration from true events such as the 2014 Badaun gang rape and the 2016 Una flogging incident and is based on Article 15 of the Indian Constitution which prohibits discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth.
Article 15 is written by Gaurav Solanki and Anubhav Sinha and also stars Isha Talwar, Sayani Gupta, M Nassar, Kumud Mishra and Manoj Pahwa in key roles.
