Much has been said about Kabir Khan's last film, 83, starring Ranveer Singh, which failed to perform well in India. The sports-drama film was favourably praised by critics but bombed at the box office. After completing a post-mortem investigation of the film, experts concluded that the genre, dull character of biopics, heavy multiplex propensity, and poor budget allocation had a lot to do with it.
The film evidently failed to make an impact in the Indian diaspora, with an India nett of around ₹102 crores. However, the film had an impact outside of India, as it became the top grossing Indian film of 2021 outside of India, beating out Sooryavanshi, Pushpa, and Master Annaatthe, all of which did greater business. Check our 83 overseas box office collection report for more information.
83 has earned a total of approximately ₹63 crores gross (USD 8.4 m) in overseas earnings and is expected to complete its run around the ₹65 crores gross amount in the best-case scenario. Although it is the highest-grossing Indian film of 2021 in terms of global earnings, the figures are minimal given the film's hefty production expenditures and wide distribution.
Ranveer Singh has had a fantastic run in the global market, with his previous three films exceeding the USD 10 million-barrier, and 83 will fall far short of it. In addition, Ranveer Singh's streak of USD 5 million in the United States and Canada is ended, as 83 has failed to reach USD 5 million in North America.
