The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has reduced the maximum duration of the programmes on offer. According to the notice dated 10th November 2020, University decides to reduce the maximum duration of passing the PG, PG-Diploma, Diploma, and Certificate academic programmes, as given in the notice. IGNOU takes the decision after the approval from Competent Authority.
Students Registration Division, IGNOU on Tuesday published an official notice stating the deduction in the maximum duration to complete the academic programme being offered at postgraduate, diploma and certificate levels. Academic Council at its 74th meeting held on 21st July considered the IGNOU's proposal on minimum and maximum duration of the academic programmes.
According to the notice released by the Indira Gandhi National Open University, the provisions of the ordinance on admission, eligibility, minimum and maximum duration of various Degree, Diploma, and Certificate programmes were considered by the academic council in its meeting and has been approved.
"It has been decided that the maximum duration of the academic programmes on offer shall be 4 years for Postgraduate, 3 years for Diploma/ PG Diploma, and 2 years for Certificate courses", notice reads. The maximum duration of the undergraduate level programmes shall remain as before, it adds.

The ordinance shall be applicable for the newly enrolled candidates of Indira Gandhi National Open University. Students enroll for the Posgraduate / Diploma / PG Diploma OR Certificate programmes can check the detailed notice at its official website ignou.ac.in. The last date for fresh admission for December 2020 academic session has been extended to November 15.
